Author Guidelines

Articles sent to Revista Signos. Estudios de Lingüística must meet the following set of conditions. If these conditions are not met, the arbitration process will not occur. In order to ensure that the manuscripts are properly formatted, a PDF template including a detailed guide is available

  1. The manuscript must be uploaded in Word format, must be written in English or Spanish, and must be revised by native speakers of the mentioned languages if the author is not a native speaker of them.
  2. Attach to the original manuscript, a PDF archive of the Copyright Transfer Agreement signed by the authors.
  3. The article must be written in a letter size page, using the font Times New Roman in size 12, with a line spacing of 1.5, and a 3 cm margin to the left, right, top, and bottom. The extension should not exceed 25 pages, including BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES, NOTES, AND APPENDICES.
  4. The authors should not be identified in the article. A presentation sheet must be attached in which the following information is specified: author(s) name(s), institutional affiliation, and email.
  5. The Title, Abstract, and Keywords must be written in both English and Spanish. The Abstract must contain a maximum of 250 words written in only one paragraph. It must be explicit: the objective of the investigation, main theoretical and methodological aspects, and most relevant conclusions and results. At the end of each abstract, 5 Keywords about the content of the article must be included. It is recommended to only include essential bibliographic references.
  6. The article must be divided into sections (and sub-sections, if necessary), that must be adequately titled. The following sections INTRODUCTION, CONCLUSIONS, BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES, NOTES, AND APPENDICES must be written in capital letters and must not be numbered. The foreign words or phrases must be typed in italics and technical concepts must be written using simple quotation marks.
  7. The INTRODUCTION section will include a brief state of the art of the main theme of the article, the main problem of the investigation, a description of the theoretical framework in which the contribution is inserted, and their new contributions; the sought objective must be explicit and describe how the work will show evidence of it. In this section, neither theoretical nor bibliographic support must be presented in detail.
  8. Empirical articles sent to Revista Signos. Estudios de Lingüística will include, after the INTRODUCTION, a section corresponding to the theoretical framework and others corresponding to the methodological framework, properly numbered, and if necessary, sub-numbered.
  9. After the methodological framework, a section in which the results of the investigation are presented and discussed must be included. This can be made in two sections, properly titled and numbered.
  10. Include, in the corresponding cases, properly numbered Tables, Figures, and Graphs. The display of these visual materials must follow the APA style guidelines.
  11. The NOTES must be included at the end of the article, after the BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES section. Notes should be used to contribute with information that cannot be included in the body of the article and only if necessary.
  12. Direct citations included in the text, must be typed using double quotation marks, whereas larger citations (more than three text lines) must be in a separate paragraph. These must have a higher margin (2cm from the left margin) than the one used in the body.
  13. Identify the corresponding author(s) of the direct citations within the article in the following way: (author’s last name, year, and page number of the citation). In the case of multiple authors (three or more),  only the last name of the first author will be included followed by the abbreviation "et al".
  14. Identify the reference of an author in the text in the following manner: (author’s last name, year, and page number or range). In case of mentioning a work of two authors, “and” is used between their last names if they are mentioned outside of a parenthesis, however, if they are mentioned inside of a parenthesis the sign “&” will be used.
  15. In order to ensure the quality and readability of the edition of our articles, all the supporting material for the texts such as tables, figures, graphs, equations, etc., besides being included in the body of the document, they also must be sent separately in an archive from the software in which they were originally created, for instance, Excel or Power Point.
  16. Reviewer Suggestions. Authors are requested to list a maximum of 3 potential reviewers (with their names, affiliation details, and email addresses) with the following restrictions: no current or previous mentors/supervisors, no current or previous research collaborators, no current or previous students or post-docs, no reviewers from the same institution. The editors retain the sole right to decide whether or not suggested reviewers are contacted. Please note that normally not more than 1 of the reviewers for a particular manuscript will be sourced from the list of suggested names. Authors MUST upload a Word document with all the requested information (as an additional file).
  17. All the cited works in the text must be included in the BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES and each work in the reference list must be cited in the text. Remember that both citations and references must follow the APA style guidelines.
  18. Ensure a blind revision. To ensure the integrity of the blind revision of the manuscript, it is necessary to avoid the identity of the authors being known. This implies that the authors must adjust their text following the aspects listed below:
  • Author(s)’s names must be deleted from the text, using “Author” and the year of the references at the foot of the page, instead of the name of the author(s). Moreover, any acknowledgment and number or name of the project must be deleted, independent of the section in which they are located.
  • Any authors’ complete reference in the BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES section must be deleted.
  • As this Journal has adopted a double-blind reviewing policy, please remove all identifying features from the paper itself by ensuring that no author's name (or allusion to the author, e.g. funding source, grant numbers, and acknowledgments) appears in the main text, in-text citations, footnotes, reference list, or any section of the manuscript.

  IMPORTANT:

  • The process of assigning reviewers for the manuscripts will not begin until all requirements above are fulfilled.
  • Revista Signos. Estudios de Lingüística publishes articles by the same author every two years.
  • PLEASE address all queries regarding your submission to revista.signos@pucv.cl
