Assigning proficiency levels to the collocations of the ‘Diccionario de Colocaciones del español’

This article puts forward a method to level the collocations of the Diccionario de Colocaciones del Español according to the levels proposed in the MCER. The frequency that the collocations contained in the dictionary exhibit in the corpus has been used as the levelling criteria. By means of the analysis of a sample of collocations included in both the dictionary and the Plan Curricular del Instituto Cervantes, it is proven a negative correlation between the levelling proposed for those collocations in the Plan Curricular and the corpus frequency. Such correlation justifies the relevance of the frequency as a levelling criterion. Finally, a qualitative exam of the results is carried out to prove the validity of the proposed method.Downloads
